Much like any other skill becoming a good shooter requires practice, quality training, and a professional instructor to help you become a better, safer, and more confident shooter. Great Southwest Gun offers classes and personal instruction to help you accomplish those goals. Whether you are looking to become more proficient with your handgun skills, get your Texas CHL, or learn about defensive handgun tactics, our convenient DFW metro Indoor shooting location makes it easy. Basic Handgun Proficiency

Basic Handgun Proficiency Training includes:

• Selecting the right handgun to fit your needs
• Proper loading, unloading, and safe storage your firearm.
• Proper stance, grip, sight picture, trigger pull, and breath control.

Upon completion you can expect to have a basic working knowledge of your firearm. This is a 2 hour class that includes one hour in our classroom and one hour in our climate controlled state of the art shooting range. A B-27 target, and range fee is included.

A handgun, 50 rounds of ammunition, ear/eye protection is required.The cost for this class is $65 per person.

Texas Concealed Handgun Licensing (CHL)

Concealed Handgun Licensing (CHL) covers:

• Non violent dispute resolution.
• Use of Force.
• Civil liability
• Texas concealed handgun laws.
• Concealed carry options

Upon passing a written and live fire test, you will receive a signed CHL-100 form from our DPS certified instructor which you may submit to the DPS. This is a 10 hour class that includes 9 hours in our classroom and one hour in our climate controlled, state of the art, shooting range located in Grand Prairie Texas (10 total hours required by TXDPS). This includes instruction, B-27 target, and range fee. A handgun, 50 rounds of ammunition, and ear/eye protection is required. Rental handguns are available at a discounted rate to CHL students for the proficiency test if needed. The cost for this class is $79 per person.

For more information about the Texas Concealed Handgun License, or To Apply Online please visit the TXDPS website. We strongly encourage students to apply online and offer assistance if needed. When you choose to Apply Online you are able to avoid the hassles of submitting a hand written application, stamp notarized affidavits, etc. The DPS has made applying online a more efficient and faster way to receive your CHL. We do have paper applications/forms and notary service for those who choose to the paper submission route.

Note: To avoid long delays and/or rejected fingerprints,Texas DPS, starting March 1st 2011 will require all fingerprints to be digitally taken at a FAST location. All CHL applicants must submit digital prints after this date, rolled ink prints will not be accepted by the DPS. Please call or email for more details.

Texas CHL Renewal

CHL Renewal covers:

• Class Review
• Range Qualification

This is a 4 hour class that includes 3 hours of classroom instruction and one hour of range qualification time. A handgun, 50 rounds of ammunition, and ear/eye protection is required. The cost for this class is $65 per person.

Defensive Handgun

Defensive Handgun covers:

• Training efficiently for defensive situations
• Working with natural stress reactions
• The ready position and its function
• Balancing speed and precision
• Stance and movement during a defensive situation
• Review of laws regarding use of deadly force

Defensive handgun is formatted for anyone serious about increasing their survivability in a defensive situation. This class is not for rank beginners, a working knowledge of your firearm is a requirement. Personal coaching or advanced Pistol handling courses are recommended for those who would like to take the class but need additional training . This is a 4 hour class and includes classroom & live range instruction, targets, and range fee. A semi-automatic handgun with 2 magazines, a sturdy holster, 150 rounds of ammunition, and ear/eye protection is required. The cost for this class is $125 per person.

Personal Coaching (Handgun)

Personal coaching includes:
One on one instruction in the classroom and/or live on the range with one of our certified professional handgun instructors. Reasons for personal coaching could be anything from fine tuning efficient pistol handling, holster presentation, reloading during critical incidents, to CHL qualification guidance. The cost for this service is $50/hr.
